RetroKit - A project to develop and demonstrate multifunctional, modular, low cost and easy to install prefabricated modules

The vision of the RetroKit project is to develop and demonstrate multifunctional, modular, low cost and easy to install prefabricated modules in order to significantly increase the EU retrofitting rate and contribute to EU energy reduction commitments.

The Retrokit project aims are:

  • To develop and demonstrate multifunctional, modular, low cost and easy to install prefabricated modules at three full scale building pilots in different climate zones (Spain, Germany, Sweden)
  • To bring the aspect of multifunctional façade and roof elements into the retrofit sector
  • To develop special integrated solutions, which are dealing with the aspects of heating, ventilation, cooling, electricity and ICT in a flexible way. Specifically, this will be a window element accompanied with a technical box taking in HVAC systems as well as interfaces for building services (ducting, piping) installed on the existing façade.
  • To create a “RetroKit Toolbox” where external retrofitting concepts with an integration of internal renovation aspects and semi-prefabricated technological solutions will be clustered. The toolbox will be supported by a decision support system that provides data, transparency on payback, guidelines and design support.

RetroKit key factor is the window element accompanied with a technical box taking in HVAC systems as well as interfaces for building services (ducting, piping) installed on the existing façade.
